Glenn Close took birth in Greenwich, Connecticut in the family of Bettine and William Taliaferro Close. Her father was a doctor who operated a clinic in the Belgian Congo and also was a physician to President Mobutu Sese Seko. She belongs to an illustrious family. Her parental grandfather Edward Bennett Close was a stockbroker and also the director of the American Hospital Association. He first married Marjorie Merriweather Post, Post Cereals’ heiress. She joined Rosemary Hall, an elite school in Connecticut and she later enrolled The College of William & Mary. While in The College of William & Mary, she got elected to membership in honor society of Phi Beta Kappa.

Glenn Close is known as a versatile actress and performer. One of her memorable performances is on Dangerous Liaisons as the scheming aristocrat The Marquise de Merteuil. In the ‘Fatal Attraction’, she portrayed the character of psychotic editor Alex. Throughout her acting career, she received nominations for five Academy Awards including the Best Actress in Dangerous Liaisons and Fatal Attraction. For her performance on ‘The Natural’, ‘The Big Chill’, and ‘The World According to Garp’, she received nomination in the category of Best Supporting Actress. In 1984, she made appearance on ‘Something about Amelia’. In 1990, she was seen in the film ‘Reversal of Fortune’ portraying the part of Sunny von Bulow. She then started taking roles on television. In 1991, she appeared on ‘Sarah, Plain and Tall’. In 1995, she made an appearance in the made for TV movie ‘Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer’. Her above mentioned appearances made her to be nominated for Emmy Awards for 8 times, and she won it once. She also received 9 Golden Globe nominations and won the award in 2005 and 2007.

Her next appearances were on the newsroom comedy drama ‘The Paper’, ‘Mars Attacks!’ as The First Lady; the Disney Hit ‘101 Dalmatians’ as the sinister Cruella de Vil. Glenn Close also made appearance on 102 Dalmatians. In the 1997 block buster ‘Air Force One’, she was seen portraying trustworthy vice president to Harrison Ford’s President. During 2001, she was seen in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical South Pacific.


In 2005, Glenn Close became a part of FX crime series ‘The Shield’. Her part on series is as no-nonsense precinct captain. In 2007, she joined ‘Damages’, a new hit series. She also made appearances on innumerous Broadway musicals. Her best role on stage, yet, is of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. She won a Tony award for playing the role so brilliantly. The lady is now in talks to reprise the role of Norma Desmond on the movie version of Sunset Boulevard. She won her second Tony award in 1984 for her performance on ‘The Real Thing’ and ‘Death and the Maiden’.

In 1998, she appeared as a guest star at Andrew Lloyd Webber fiftieth birthday party celebration.

Glenn Close married her longtime boyfriend David E. Shaw in February, 2006. As of now, the couple is residing in Scarborough, Maine. Her two previous marriages were with Cabot Wade and James Marlas. The lady also had a relationship with John Starke and has one child Annie Maude Starke with him.

Her Broadway and off-Broadway musical performances include ‘Rex’, ‘Barnum’, and ‘Busker Alley’.
