The Shield: Vic Mackey Rocks

Hey The Shield fans, how are you doing!

I guess, you would be feeling too bored.  It’s pretty obvious as one year has passed since the last episode of the show. It was aired on November 25, 2008. The show had reached to our hearts in all its seven seasons. The character who was most liked was Vic Mackey portrayed by Michael Chiklis. He was the main lead of the show. His strong build and bold nature provided us all a new experience which we had never seen before. Even though he was a corrupt police officer but his action sequences were to die for. He caught our attention from the very first show where he left us all dumbstruck by killing a fellow cop whom he thought was an informant.

Vic Mackey’s character was so groundbreaking that it couldn’t be ignored at all. Portraying this character, Michael Chiklis won an Emmy award as the best actor in drama in The Shield’s very first season. It is rarely seen that a character with dark shades gains so much attention, but Vic managed to do this magic. He does his work very well as the leader of the ‘Strike Team’. He steals from drug dealers, beats and tortures the suspects and commits murders. He also had a tensed married life. Two of his three children are autistic, thus their special needs are the main source of tension for him. Though he perceives himself as a loyal father and partner but ironically he fails in both these roles.

Vic might be a rogue cop but he had both vice and virtue. As an example, his loving relation with his children sharply contrasts with his thuggish approach to police work, although his brutality is targeted only to those people who deserve it. Even in the last shot of The Shield we got to see that a man can never stay away from his true character for long. He was shown picking up his gun and leaving the ICE building. It was a perfect end for such a show.

The Insider’s View of The Shield

Every good thing must come to an end. But then only consolation is that every bad thing also comes to an end. So when The Shield finally ended on November 25, 2008 after 7 successful seasons, all of knew that we had a classic at our hands that we would like to watch over and over again.

There are many things that set The Shield apart from the usual police drama and since we all already know much about the show, let’s today discuss what happened behind the cameras, before they started rolling and after they stopped rolling.

We all loved Michael Chiklis as Vic Mackey but what most of us don’t know is that not only did he have to get in shape and take special training, but he also had to learn to speak Spanish.

Before joining The Shield, Michael Chiklis was known mostly for playing the chubby, good natured title character on _”The Commish” (1991). In the descriptions of first season, the character of Vic Mackey was often described as “The anti-Commish” because of the contrast between that characters laid back, affable style, and Vic Mackey’s violent and brutal temperament.

Michael Chiklas’s real-life daughter Autumn portrayed Cassidy, Vic Mackey’s TV daughter and show creator Shawn Ryan (I)’s real-life wife Cathy Cahlin Ryan played Vic Mackie’s wife. She was pregnant throughout the filming of the first season.

Vic Mackey carried a Smith and Wesson Model 4506-1 .45 ACP caliber semi-automatic pistol with adjustable 3-dot sights. The firearm can carry eight rounds in a magazine.

.

The cast had to undergo police weapons and tactics training for The Shield. There used to be police technical advisers on the set of every episode which took an average of seven days to be filmed. At the outset, the advertisers were unenthusiastic to pay to be in its schedules because of the series’ graphic content. The high ratings soon convinced them otherwise.

The police technical consultant to the show told Michael Chiklis that all police officers would love The Shield TV Show, even those above the rank of captain who would denounce it in public

The Shield TV show has always been close to reality

Shows get on air and go away! Only a few of them manage to make their place in the hearts of fans and several got off-air unnoticeably.  It’s the plot, characters and the way of representing events which help a show to attract the stares of the visitors. The shows, which become successful in doing so, are remembered years after their cancellation by their fans. On the contrary, the shows, which fail to fulfill the above criteria, got out of one’s memory only days after the cancellation.

The Shield is definitely one of the most loved shows of FX Network. It came to an end after the seventh season finale entitled ‘Family Meeting’ aired on November 25, 2008.  Though fans wished for some more seasons of the show, the network brought all the rumors to an end after canceling the series officially. Throughout its run, The Shield was critically acclaimed for its portrayal of reality. The series had been close to realism, more than other dramas of same category. It has received critical praise for its portrayal of gang violence in Los Angeles.   Most of the events were derived from the real gangs; however the actual names of the gangs were not used. In the early seasons of ‘The Shield’, Latino gangs such as such as “Los Magnificos” (or “Los Mags”), the Byzantine Latinos (or “Byz-Lats”) and the “Toros” remained as a constant thorn in Strike Team’s side. On the other hand, in the later seasons of the show, the black gangs became more important. If you remember the fourth season of the show, it was entirely centered on a gang calling itself the “One-Niners. In order to get it closer to reality, the show creators made use of background music.

Not the fans only, but the critics and other concerned people have always appreciated The Shied for its uniqueness and closeness to reality. In the list of Top 10 Returning Series of 2007, released by Time Magazine’s James Poniewozik, The Shield appeared at #8.

However, The Shield has gone away, it’s breathing in the hearts of fans who can never forget such an entertaining show. Only for those crazy fans of the show, here we are providing complete seasons of ‘The Shield’. You can download and watch ‘The Shield’ online here. It’s so easy.

What Are The Detectives From The Shield, Doing Now?

Although ‘The Shield’, stopped airing after the completion of Season 7 last year, it still remains as one of the most loved series amongst the audiences. So when I came across some news about two detectives from our favorite cop series, I decided to share the same with you.

Detective Curtis ‘Lem’ Lemansky“, (played by Kenny Johnson) and “Detective Terry Crowley” (played by Reed Diamond), would never had thought that someone would be spying on them. Well!  To tell you the truth, to learn more about them, I looked into the lives of the actors who had played the roles of these characters, with the expectation of getting some news about them. I searched hard, read about them from here and there, and then managed to get hold of the following information.

“Curtis Lemansky” was one of my favorite detectives in the series, ‘The Shield’. Kenny Johnson, who portrayed this character so well, is currently working on the biographical film on screen legend, Steve McQueen. Jesse Wigutow has been hired to write the screenplay of the film. Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters are the producers and Kenny Johnson is the co-executive producer, along with Graham Kyle, Brett Granstaff and Keith Watkins.

Another detective whom I liked on ‘The Shield‘ is, “Terry Crowley” whose character was enacted by Reed Diamond. Reed is currently playing the role of Laurence Dominic on the new TV series ‘Dollhouse‘, which premiered on 13 February 2009. He has recurring role on the show and his character has been revealed to be that of an undercover NSA agent. The series has already completed airing the episodes of its first season.

There was a strange connection between the two detectives on ‘The Shield‘. The strange connection between the two resulted from their association with Detective Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis). It was an irony that Curtis was loyal to Vic, while being unaware of the fact that Terry was killed by Vic.

I always felt curious about these corrupt detectives who would go to any limits to maintain law and order and I liked watching them untilThe Shield concluded on 25 November 2008. But I still watch my favorite episodes from the show by downloading them from this website or even watching them online here.

Will The Shield Return in the Form of a Movie?

Hello everyone! This is a question that most of the fans of this wonderful cop drama have been asking since the day they bid adieu to The Shield in November last year. Even though the series was ranked as one of the top ten shows of 2008, it was not revived for another season. During the seven season long run, the cop drama has always been compared to the underworld drama, The Sopranos and according to creator Shawn Ryan, the comparison was what made the show survive. The series that bluntly told many things about law-enforcement and human nature had made a perfect ending in the final episode with the protagonist confessing to all the crimes he committed in spite of being an enforcer of law. The reason behind the huge success of The Shield was that it always came up with the best story, and if that meant doing something that felt somewhat shocking but justifiable, the creators never backed off from going ahead even at the risk of losing audience base.

But now that our most loved show, The Shield has ended, people are eager to know whether the show will follow the footsteps of other successful shows and return to the big screen in the form of a movie? Speculations about the same have been going on since the show ended, but as yet nothing has been confirmed. I think the cult fan base of the show is still hoping to revive the show in some way or the other. Well, personally I feel the show has ended meaningfully and had it continued, it would soon have lost its charm and individuality. As for a movie, I would definitely like to see the action of The Shield being performed on big screen and so I would definitely like a movie based on the series. Let’s hope that someone is listening and we soon get to see an action packed movie based on this dark crime drama. But in case it does not happen, let us be satisfied that our favorite show has become a classic of the American television.

‘The Shield’ has gone, yesterday!

Finally, yesterday brought an end to a series which ruled the FX network for seven consecutive seasons. Yeah, ‘The Shield’, when I was watching the series finale entitled ‘Family Meeting’, really heart was not ready to admit that it’s the last episode of the show which I loved so much. But, unfortunately, it was and we had to say good-bye to ‘The Shield’ crew yesterday.

Okay, let’s talk a little about the series finale. In this episode, we saw the team searching for a missing woman and awaiting a huge drug shipment. It was a good episode and if you’ve missed it, then, I think you must watch it in order to bid farewell to your sweet drama ‘The Shield. Series finale was a 90 minute episode and it really exposed the ultimate fate of Las Angeles Police Department Det. Vic Mackey. The best part of the show was that it never made it to popular places like Beverly Hills, or Santa Monica etc. Instead, their everyday lives were set in a small city of wooden houses. Whatever, it really rocked throughout its seven season long run and I must say that fans will accept it with both hands if it ever comes with a spin-off. Well, I’m sure that series’ spin-off will attract more visitors than its predecessor. Hope, it’ll be back very soon.

Seventh season of The Shield was really very enjoying and entertaining. 13 episodes were aired during the season and each one was really very superb. My favorite episode of season 7 is ‘Bitches Brew’. Here, we saw that Vic faced additional pressure to take down Pezuela after his review board meeting is moved up. Meanwhile, a woman of the street from Vic’s past dragged him along with the Strike Team into a murder investigation. Dutch and Billings were seen investigating a series of neighborhood break-ins. In a nut shell, it was a very good and breathtaking episode.

Hey Folks! I am used to write a ‘What’s next’ column in my write ups. But, unluckily, today I can’t write that. Because there’s nothing like ‘next’ in ‘The Shield’s case. It’s over, yeah!

‘The Shield’ is answerable to its viewers

The Shield‘ is one series that has entertained its viewers throughout, with quality entertainment. It is one of the best police drama series on air. Now, that the series has entered its seventh and last season, there are a number of questions that have been left unanswered. And, we as viewers are of the view that the series before winding up should answer all those questions.

There are a number of issues that have been left unsolved by the creators or probably they have not given a thought to them. Now, let’s talk about them. The creators need to work on the storyline of Vic and Shane. Now, that Shane has informed the Armenian mob that he and the Strike Team robbed the money train back in season three and because of this bit of information Vic’s family is on a hit. Vic, now, has to reluctantly work with Shane to protect both his job and his family’s security. And the creators need to work on this storyline in depth, to make things clearer to its viewers.

There are a number of loose ends that needs to be straightened out regarding the secondary characters. Unfortunately, many characters got pushed to the side as the years passed and now that the series is about to end, its time to wind up the roles of these characters.

For many viewers, Vic is the bad guy of the series. Remember the scenes in which Vic shot a fellow cop in cold blood? He is the same man who had once put a gun in a girl’s mouth as a scare tactic and many more to count. I guess that Vic’s luck has played enough for him and now its time that he pays for his sins.

Well, here was a suggestion that would simply make the series even more likeable as there will be nothing left to the viewer’s imagination and all its loopholes will be covered. We hope that they work on these issues for their viewers.

A tear sac bye to The Shield………

Seven years are more than enough to develop a bond with something. So this is empathized for the stars of ‘The Shield’ to shed tears while shooting the last episode of last season. They have been working together since seven seasons and seven years. Recently, they finished the shoot of finale episode. Creator Shawn Ryan says that it will end with a bang, like people deserve. Of course, a hit show’s ending should be in a way, which could be remembered for years. I am extra curious to watch it now, especially after Ryan’s version.

It’s sad that the show is moving to its end. But this is too worth appreciating that the show has made a mark, with its long presence on the silver screen. No need to mention that only successful shows make this far.

You or me, are not the only ones, who are upset over end of this series. The stars of the show are equally lament over parting from the show. It is learnt that everybody on the sets, shed tears on the last day of the shoot. Perhaps, they will not work with their seven year old companions, ever again.

Michael Chiklis, Vic Mackay of the show, shared a word. He said, he had been feeling like the leader of the show since seven years, so he controlled himself from getting teary and offered his shoulder to several to melt down, instead. He stayed strong until the things got wrapped and everybody left. After that he poured his heart to cry for himself. Aaah! It must be like a king is looking at his throne for the last time.

Anyways, this is life, and life is meant for moving on. He’s a young man and a very good actor, so I hope we will definitely see him soon in some different character. Hopefully, on big screen! I’ve heard that he’s starring in a big screen thriller, “Eagle Eye”. Before that I’ve to catch the happening finale of ‘The Shield.

Seventh season is not far away.

Hey! Strike team fans, The Shield‘is coming soon with the seventh season. Just a month is left now for it return. The seventh season is set to premier on September 2. This is my favorite crime based show mainly because it is based upon the real life of police detectives and is closer to the intrigues and conspiracies that are part of our police department. They actually face the similar problems in their professional lives and are helpless because of the corruption. It’s like ‘when in Rome do as Romans do’. So they have to behave sometimes as criminal, as they spend most of their time with criminals.

shield300.jpg

Vic is the most impressive character from the series for me. He is the perfect model of contemporary cop. He knows where he has to remain soft and where he has to get tough. I like his ways of settling scores with his rival cops. Like he did with Julien and David Aceveda, Julien was tough with him as he had caught Vic stealing evidences from the crime spot in a narcotics case. After this Vic finds out the weak points of Julien and black mails him and then Julien accepts every condition laid by him and they both become friends. Vic does similar thing with Aceveda as well. He is quite witty cop and knows very well how to handle the situation.

I am waiting for the series to watch him once again. As in the previous season his chief was trying to force him to take early retirement. But he vows that he won’t do that before he has avenged Lem’s murder. He says that he would get to Lem’s murderers before losing his badge. So the seventh season will most probably concentrate more upon Vic. And we will be able to see Vic in bigger action this time. This season is gonna be filled with cat mouse race between Vic and Lem’s killer. So this is going to be great season and I am desperately waiting for this.

It’s going to take a month so meanwhile I am going to watch sixth season once again.

Detective Dutch moving out from The Shield

shield-jaykarnes.jpg

Hey buddies! The six seasons long The Shield, is now moving towards its end with the launch the seventh and final season. It will not continue in its eighth season, as the cast is looking for roles in other series. You know, Detective Dutch for one has already moved on with other drama series. Yesterday I was going through the TV news on Buddy TV and there was breaking news of the evening that Jay Karnes (Dutch) has bagged a role in ‘Sons of Anarchy’. and he will play ATF agent Scott Kohn in the series.

That should mean that he is now free from of his role in ‘The Shield’. I wonder why’ The Shield’ is coming to an end after seven seasons. There are many shows which go beyond this. This is a good show though a bitter pill for the real life administration. But whether they present it in a funny way or otherwise, they show the truth, and truth is indigestible most of the time.

jay-karnes-1.jpg

I like Dutch. Do you remember him strangulating a cat, some thing totally opposite to his nature .But I have a soft corner for cat and not for him. Well he is the only one from the administration in the show, who chooses the right path first and is hardly willing to do something illegal and that’s why appears as a nerd among others. The funniest part of his personality is that he holds the suspects as innocent if they look good or appear to come from middle class or from an upper class family. He thinks that only poor people can commit a crime. Well Jay does nice work on the show. Moreover, as he specializes in serial killings and violent crimes so he adds more action to the show.

He looks cool on the show and that’s why perhaps writers show him having a fling with Vic’s divorcee wife. Any ways, he is an excellent actor so I’ll wait for his work in ‘Son of Anarchy’ too. I am waiting eagerly for the seventh season, let’s see what new and interesting they are bringing this time.
